Did Someone Say Crabs?
The last update brought some news and changes in the game that hint at things to come. We have new fish. Which means... ???
(This event will be coming in the future. This post is educated speculation.)

Crab Control? (Official Name not Released) - a Reskin of Sunshine Island Ocean Guardian?
In BFMH, we have an event, run twice (2 different skins) that players prepare all year for because they give players the ability to produce a premium in-game item. As soon as the event ends, you spend the next 10 months stocking up for the next run - seaweed humus - the ability to instantly harvest any crop with bonus yield.
In Sunshine Island, while not as good, Ocean Guardian is that event. Sadly, the 3rd ran last week and they restructured, removing the best questline and the mind blowing rewards at the end, replacing them with recurring delivery station rewards. I didn't play it very deep, and it's messy with many parallel questlines and other mini games running SI is turning into a gambling simulator. SI has run a few events with mechanics aimed to purely frustrate users into spending. I did see a number of complaints that the math was impossible to finish one of the questlines without spending. The SI community was not helpful trying to gather the information I was lacking, so I can't confirm this. (We have the best community, period.)
In Ocean Guardian, you collect trash off the beach for eco points, and fish up trash for eco points. There are hidden chests with good loot. All of the eco points go to a delivery station. (And SI is going to run it again as a Green Game Jam for Team Reefs event.) Since they did a survey asking if we would want to collect crabs, water samples or cargo (and crabs won), I'm expecting crabs instead of trash.
I’m praying that Homestead uses the original code and doesn’t rebalance it to make it less amazing. However, even if they do, it is still a good event. I popped onto SI 4 times to fish. Translated to Homestead - collecting trash on the beach, I discovered 4 chests: 30 glass, 30 saws, 180 bricks, 360 bricks. While fishing (26 times), I pulled up 3 more of these chests and a rare chest, with 720 rakes. I know there are also gems in the loot table.
After the last update, Bluegills, Bullheads and Koi started appearing.
These are extremely rare fish outside of their designated area, which aren't unlocked.
This means that new fishing areas and fish are already in the code. If we look at franchise habits, the teams usually release 1 update at the beginning of the month, so to have it in the code already, we can expect this will start between the end of picnic (25th if 1 week long) and mid first week of June.
When they ran this event on SI for the first time, it came with fishing upgrades. The ones of note:
- New area (Golden?) - 15k fillets
- New area (Copper?) - 30k fillets
- 6 fish cooler capacity - 15k fillets
- 6 lure regen capacity - 15k fillets
- Some type of rod range capacity, lure speed, and boat speed
One of my mods pointed out that the upgrades were released in stages on SI. I really hope we don't get 6 lures now and 6 cooler capacity 3 months from now.
That is why I am recommending saving 90k fillets (or more) before mid may, and premium lures!
If the event is a bust, you just spend your fillets and go fishing. If the event is amazing, you go fishing by Copper Ridge for rarer fish and great prizes.
